Scott Walker's slogan is "It's Working". He's been inundating the airwaves with this message.
Well - it's not working for Scott. Despite Walker's air blitz, republican-leaning Rasmussenhas just released a poll today showing that 52% of Wisconsinites favor recalling him (as opposed to 47% who want to keep him.)
The question:
A special election will be held to see if voters want to recall Governor Scott Walker and remove him from office. If the special election were held today, would you vote to recall Governor Walker and remove him from office or would you vote against the recall and let him continue to serve as governor?I can't get at the crosstabs (don't have a subscription to Ras). It's an up-or-down question, which is not what we vote for - we vote for Walker vs. a yet-to-be-determined candidate. And I'd love to know what the breakdown is for likely voters... but good news is good news.
We've been working hard here and the good news is welcome. We're in three (!) election cycles. Walker has galvanized us.
Tomorrow is our spring nonpartisan election. We'll be electing school board members, city council members, county board members, mayors. These are the springboard for higher office, and we've been working hard to make sure that Democrats and progressives are running for these offices and that the voters know who to vote for.
This week, we're also collecting nomination signatures to get candidates on the ballot for the recall elections. Candidates have until next week to get 2000 signatures statewide to get on the ballot for governor or lt. governor. Then, it's once more into the breach, my fellow Badgers.
Finally, we're gearing up for fall elections, where we hope to take back the senate and assembly. Candidates have been lining up, calling, raising money, introducing themselves to the activists, getting their campaign plans set. We'll start collecting signatures in two weeks. Even with the recalls, we cannot lose sight of these elections.
And so, with this good news that Walker's campaign is NOT working - FORWARDS!
3:26 PM PT: Oh yeah - almost forgot, we've got this little thing called a PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY on Tuesday as well.
I will be voting for BARACK OBAMA.
